Face lifts can work wonders on aging skin. Getting great results requires an expert surgeon; keeping them entails attentive post-operative care. Plan to give your face some extra attention in the months after your procedure and you can plan on a more youthful look that will last 10 to 20 years.
After the surgery
Prepare to be on bed rest the first day or two following face lift surgery. After that, you will probably feel good enough to move around your home. Just be sure to take it easy during the first two weeks. Get plenty of rest, and avoid strenuous activities like exercise, housework and sex.
At first, you may experience some bruising or swelling. You may also tire easily. This is natural, and may even cause you to second-guess your facelift. Soon after, however, you will look and feel like a younger version of yourself. You may tire easily — this is the body’s natural response to the healing process.
After the first week, you can use makeup to hide minor bruises that remain from cosmetic surgery. Just be sure to stay out of the sun. The skin around your hairline will remain sensitive for several months; it may even feel dry and rough to the touch. But this will pass, and any remaining scars will be substantially hidden under your hairline or in the natural creases of your face and ears.
Long-term care
As time passes and your skin heals, you will feel so good you may forget you ever had surgery. But in order to maintain your youthful look, you will need to follow a few precautions. Do not smoke, for starters, and keep sun exposure to a minimum. When you do go in the sun, protect your skin with sunscreen.
You’ll also want to avoid significant weight fluctuations, which can cause your face to sag much like it did before your cosmetic surgery. Most of all, you should maintain overall good health. This means eating healthy, staying hydrated and treating your body with care.
