Here at our Worcester facial rejuvenation practice, we believe that the more you know, the greater the chances of a successful outcome from the procedure of your choice. When it comes to Botox, there’s no denying that it can reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and fine lines in such an easy way (lunchtime Botox, anyone?). In fact, Botox has been on the top of non-surgical cosmetic procedures for years now.
So before you take the plunge on Botox, we suggest that you learn more about the following:
1. Botox works by primarily paralyzing the muscles in your face that cause wrinkling. A perfect example would be crow’s feet or those lines and wrinkles which develop in the outer area of your eyes. Although genetics could play a role, frequent smiling with your eyes (aptly term as smizing) and squinting in the sun could lead to appearance of crow’s feet.
2. Botox is mainly used to reduce the appearance of frown lines, furrows in the forehead, and crow’s feet.
3. Results are visible within a week or two of injections and may last for 3 to 4 months. Repeat injections may be done.
4. You can use Botox for preventative purposes. If crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles run in the family, you might want to set up an appointment for a session of preventative Botox.
5. You need to avoid blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Vitamin E supplements 72 hours before getting Botox. The same applies for herbal supplements that contain garlic, ginger, ginkgo, ginseng, and St. John’s Wort.
6. Side effects may be present after an injection such as temporary headaches and minor bruises. They rarely happened and may be short-lived if they occur.
7. Botox may be done in conjunction with dermal fillers to achieve the look you want. A perfect example is the combination of Botox and Restylane to improve the appearance of wrinkles and folds that occur together.
8. Botox is not just effective in reducing the appearance of wrinkles. It is also used to treat migraines, urinary incontinence, and excessive underarm sweating.
9. Minimal discomfort may be experienced during the procedure but it is relatively painless.
10. Choose a qualified and highly experienced Botox injector. While it may be tempting to attend cheap “Botox” parties or take advantage of bargain Botox deals, it is best to avoid them altogether and save yourself from possible complications and poor cosmetic results.
