The rate at which you heal from eyelid surgery will depend on a combination of factors such as the general state of your health, the type of eyelid surgery that was performed, and what you do during the recovery process.
During personal consultations, we advise patients who are about to undergo eyelid surgery that certain items are crucial for a fuss-free healing period.
Cold compresses such as ice packs, frozen peas, or frozen popcorn kernels.
Swelling and bruising following eyelid surgery is normal and cold compresses are an excellent way to shorten their duration. Apply cold compresses as often as tolerated for the first 24 to 48 hours after surgery.
Artificial tears or lubricating eye drops.
Eye irritation following eyelid surgery may be treated with lubricating eye drops. Usually, patients with watery eyes are still advised to use lubricating eye drops to help prevent infection.
Antibiotic ointments
Antibiotic ointments are often prescribed and given immediately after surgery. You’ll need to apply the ointment several times a day for seven days following surgery.
Sterile saline solution
Washing your eyes and the area surrounding the incisions with sterile saline solution will significantly reduce the chances of infection post-surgery.
Pain medications
Like antibiotic ointments, pain relievers (whether via prescription or bought over-the-counter) will surely come in handy in moments of moderate to severe discomfort during the first few days of surgery.
