You know that a good night’s sleep is important for your mind, body and spirit. But did you know that your skin should sleep well, too? Every day, dirt, grime and pollutants attack your skin. If you tuck yourself in without cleaning your skin, your makeup and the day’s dirt and germs hang around all night – which means your skin can’t rejuvenate. Furthermore, the dirt and makeup grind it into your skin causing breakouts and stretching your pores, making your skin look old, and tired before it’s time.
Read on to learn a few tips to enhance your nighttime skin care routine:
•Wash – You may choose a gentle soap, cleanser, cleansing wipes or a combination. Use a gentle touch; don’t pull or tug at your skin; rinse with warm, never hot, water. Warm water opens your pores, allowing for a deeper clean. If you suffer from sensitive skin, use skincare products that are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic.
•Exfoliate – There are many gentle exfoliants on the market, but it’s not a good idea to exfoliate every night. Exfoliation a few nights a week gets rid of dead skin and encourages your body to replenish itself while you sleep. A good rule of thumb: Don’t exfoliate the skin around your eyes…stick to your forehead, chin, and cheeks.
•Moisturize – Night creams are richer and thicker than daily moisturizers and are designed to provide your skin with an extra layer of moisture while you sleep. Use a small amount and spread it across your face – don’t forger your neck.
•Use Eye Cream – Don’t neglect the area around your eyes. Eye creams combat puffiness and help relax the tissue around your eyes. They should be applied with a gentle tap using your ring or pinky finger, as the skin around your eyes is one of the most sensitive areas of your face. Using eye cream at night is your best defense against those wrinkly lines around your eyes.
