More men than ever are opting to take advantage of the benefits of Botox and Dermal Fillers – popular, FDA approved, non-surgical treatments – to address their fine lines, wrinkles and other visible signs of aging.
Injectable treatments are of two basis types: Dermal fillers, such as Restylane and Radiesse®, and Neurotoxins, such as Botox®.
- Dermal Fillers fill out facial features, adjust the contours of the chin and cheek area, can help diminish wrinkles, and restore a healthier, robust, more youthful appearance to a man’s face. Injectable fillers differ from neurotoxins in that they contain a synthetic hyaluronic acid gel, a natural substance found throughout the body that is a precursor of collagen, the support layer of the skin. Dermal fillers are designed to add volume to the treated areas. Treatments can be completed within 30-minutes and require no downtime. Depending on the product and treatment area, the rejuvenating effects of dermal fillers typically last from four months to a year – then the body will naturally metabolize the filler. To maintain results, periodic repeat injections are advised.
- Botox® is an FDA approved, non-surgical procedure for treating wrinkles formed by facial movements in the forehead and between the eyebrows. These are called “glabellar lines.” Botox uses a neurotoxin (botulinum type A) to temporarily paralyze facial muscles by blocking nerve receptors. Botox injections prevent muscle movement in the forehead, between the eyebrows, and near the corners of the eyes – the areas that cause that tired, stressed, and angry look. Each session takes about 15-20 minutes, and most patients return to normal activities immediately. The effects Botox last three to four months in most patients, at which time repeat injections are needed.
