Every year, thousands of people choose to get tummy tuck surgeries and experience a great increase in confidence afterwards, having achieved a look they’ve always wanted. If you’re considering getting a tummy tuck, then you may be wondering what is the difference between a tummy tuck and a mini tummy tuck, and wondering which you should opt for. The answer depends on your current weight and body condition.
A mini tummy tuck involves tightening the skin below the belly button with just a small incision under the ‘swimsuit line’ near the pubic bone. If you’re at your ideal weight and are simply experiencing the effects of gravity making your stomach skin a little loose, or if you’ve just have never been able to get rid of that small stomach pooch, then a mini tummy tuck would be ideal for you.
However, if you have recently lost a lot of weight and have a good deal of sagging skin, or if your belly button or upper abdominals are stretched out and loose or misshapen, then you’ll want to go for a full tummy tuck. It will involve a second incision around your belly button to also reshape the upper abdominals and belly button. At both incision locations, the surgeon will trim any excess fat that is pulled down along with loose skin. Sometimes liposuction can also be performed, but this is at the discretion of your doctor since sometimes the combination can keep you under general anesthesia for too long a period.
If you’re still not sure which procedure is right for you, then you will need to discuss it with your surgeon.
