How Long Will I Need To Recover After a Breast Lift?

Beautiful brunette woman posing in red lingerie, bodysuit.Recovering from a breast lift is a relatively short and straightforward process. Remember that you can always reach out to the board-certified plastic surgeons at UMass Memorial Medical Group if you have any questions about what to expect from your breast lift recovery timeline.

Some patients experience as few as five days of downtime after breast lift surgery. However, you may notice some residual soreness and swelling for several months. You will also need to adhere to aftercare guidelines and recovery restrictions for about six weeks. Here is a general overview of what that might look like. Keep in mind that every patient heals at a different pace.

Returning To Work

If you work in an office or your job is not physically demanding, you can probably get away with taking a week off. However, you will not be able to head back so soon if your duties include lifting anything over 10 pounds or performing strenuous activities. Ask our surgeons for advice.

We can give you a more personalized estimate based on your career and procedural details. It is important not to rush your recovery. Be sure to set aside enough time for your body to heal.

Resuming Physical Activity

Walking is encouraged right away because it can help with healing and minimize complications. However, you will need to limit other physical activities for two to six weeks after surgery. It is important to wear compression and support garments during this time. After about six weeks, you will likely be cleared to resume more strenuous aerobic work and lift heavier objects.

Preparation Is Key

It is a good idea to get your home, schedule, and transportation in order ahead of time. For example, you might want to buy some low-prep meals and create a comfortable space to recover. You will also want to take time off from work and social activities. Finally, be sure to arrange a ride to and from surgery. These simple steps will help set you up for success!
